In general, the disinfectant testing for pre-saturated towelette is a modified version of the AOAC germicidal spray products test. Unlike the germicidal spray products test, this method is to wipe the contaminated test surface with a disinfectant towelette instead of spraying it with a disinfectant.
Dry the culture (48 hours) of an individual species of bacteria onto a number of clean, sterile microscope slides.
Place the dry and contaminated microscope slides in Petri dishes and wipe them with pre-saturated towelettes separately. According to the purpose of the test, 10 or 60 contaminated test surfaces can be treated with pre-saturated disinfection wipes.
After wiping the test surfaces with towelettes, let them rest in the Petri dish for the specified contact time.
After the contact time has elapsed, transfer the treated test surface to a sterile container containing liquid growth medium for 48 hours at intervals of time. The growth medium can immediately neutralize the disinfection effect that exists on the pre-saturated towelette.
After incubation, record the number of tubes with growth of target microorganisms. At least 59 of the 60 surfaces wiped with the towelettes must prove to be fully disinfected (no growth of target microorganisms detected in the test tubes containing the neutralizing growth medium) to pass the test.
To "pass" a 10 carrier test, complete disinfection must take place on all of the wiped test surfaces.
