Biofilm Eradication Testing

Summary of the Biofilm Eradication Testing

Biofilm eradication testing

Generally, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay is used to test the efficacy of antibiotics due to its rapid and reproducible advantages. Although the traditional MIC is the most commonly used method, this method can only test the efficacy of antibiotics against free-floating, planktonic bacteria and fungi, but cannot effectively test the efficacy of antibiotics against adherent biofilms. Biofilm is a matrix formed by extracellular polysaccharides and extracellular polymers, which is a matrix formed when microbes adhere to the surface. Biofilm is a natural protective barrier that can effectively prevent antibiotics from killing enclosed bacteria and fungi. Therefore, antibiotics cannot successfully penetrate the biofilm, resulting in antibiotic resistance.

Biofilms exist wherever these microbes live, so the antibiotics, preservatives or disinfectants used must be effective for the biofilms. In order to test this resistance and gain insight into biofilms, biofilm eradication testing is required.

The Biofilm Eradication Testing Provided by Creative BioMart Microbe

Creative BioMart Microbe has rich experience and expertise in biofilm and antimicrobial research. We have established a powerful microbial research platform on which we help customers solve all the challenges encountered in the project. At present, we major provide the minimum biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) measurement method, and the crystal violet biomass staining assay that can be used in combination with MBEC.

  • The MBEC assay can be used to determine the minimum concentration of the test compound that penetrates and eradicates microbial biofilms. The assay also allows consistent biofilm generation and evaluation of multiple test compounds within a certain concentration range.
  • Crystal violet is a dye for microbial cells and extracellular matrix, usually used as a readout for biomass. Crystal violet staining can be combined with the MBEC assay, or it can be used as an independent test to assess biofilm biomass.

As an outstanding microbiological research institution, Creative BioMart Microbe provides high-quality biofilm eradication testing to help customers research biofilms more efficiently. Our excellent technology platform can realize a variety of biofilm technical services, and solve all the difficulties encountered in research for customers. The praise from customers all over the world is the proof of our quality service.
