The Live/Dead Bacteria Staining Kit is a method of staining live and dead bacteria using a green-red fluorescent probe to double stain bacteria. Bacterial cell activity depends on its metabolic characteristics or membrane integrity. Methods for assessing cell membrane integrity have higher sensitivity and more general applicability. This kit takes advantage of differences in bacterial cell membrane integrity to reliably stain and quantitatively distinguish live from dead bacteria within minutes.
Description
The live bacterial staining probes in this kit are green fluorescently labeled live bacterial probes that can pass through the intact structural plasma membrane of live bacteria. The dead bacterial staining probe is PI, a red fluorescent nucleic acid stain that can only penetrate dead bacteria with damaged membranes. Bacteria with intact cell membranes will be stained bright green by the fluorescent dye, while bacteria with damaged membranes exhibit less green fluorescence and will emit stronger red fluorescence. This kit is suitable for fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. The principle of this assay is applicable to most bacterial types, including various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
